Additional Tk 80 billion has been approved by the ECNEC for the construction of Padma Bride, as the Tk 200 billion project is facing increased expenditure.

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) cleared the amount at its meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, on Tuesday.

Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said ‘several new components’ had been added to the project.

“The expenditure soared as cost of river taming went up and more land had to be acquired,” the minister told the media after the meeting.
