A mysterious fire burnt 459 answer sheets of recently concluded Primary School Certificate (PSC) examinations in Sylhet sadar upazila complex on Saturday.


 The incident came to light on Sunday morning, a news agency reported. The officials found a total of 459 answer sheets, tied in 14 bundles, lying burnt in the room on Saturday morning. Mir Mahabubur Rahman, Upazila Nirbahi Officer, also president of the PSC examination committee, and Mohiuddin Ahmed, Upazila Education Officer, said the 459 answer sheets included 141 of English, 318 of Bangla and Bishwa Porichoy. “It might be an incident of sabotage”, said Tahmina Begum, Deputy Director of Sylhet Divisional Primary Education Department. A case was filed with Shahporan Police Station on behalf of the sadar upazila education officer. An anonymous source said the officials of the complex were trying to conceal the incident. The papers had been kept in a glass covered room of the complex. District Primary Education Officer Nurul Islam said, “We will investigate the incident to know the details.” Primary School Certificate examinations that began across the country on November 22 ended on November 30. The result is scheduled to be published on December 23.
