Prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday called upon private sector entrepreneurs to come forward and supplement the government efforts to advance education programmes for building an educated nation and developing the country as a prosperous one.
She said this while receiving results of this year’s Primary School Certificate (PSC), Junior School Certificate (JSC) and their equivalent examinations as well as inaugurating textbook distribution activities for the academic year 2016 at her official residence Ganobhaban.
The premir also stressed the need for creating funds for every primary school to maintain midday meal programmes and carry out other development activities.
She also suggested the authorities concerned to seek assistance, support and cooperation from local rich people and alumni and added that deputy commissioners and UNOs have already been directed to take measures in this regard.
Referring to the formation of the prime minister's education assistance fund, Hasina said the fund has been launched with Tk one crore seed money and poor talent students are given stipends for their higher education lessening the burden on their guardians.
Highlighting the success of introduction of PSC, JSC and JDC examinations, she said these examinations are building consciousness and self-confidence among children and thereby helping them remove fear about SSC examinations.
Earlier, the chairmen of all education boards and acting chairman of Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board separately handed over the statistics of the results to the prime minister.
Education minister Nurul Islam Nahid and primary and mass education minister Mustafizur Rahman were present.
The premier's adviser HT Imam, chairman of the standing committee on primary and mass education Motahar Hossain, PMO secretary Suraiya Begum, education secretary Sohrab Hossain, primary and mass education secretary Humayun Khalid and chairman of the NCTB Prof Narayan Chandra Pal were present on the occasion.
