Minister Amu orders to relocate Hazaribagh tanneries within 72 hrs
Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu has ordered to shut the tanneries of Hazaribagh if they are not shifted to Savar within next 72 hours.
The minister also asked BSCIC to send legal notice to the tannery owners by Sunday, according to a press release of the Industries Ministry.
The minister also directed to cancel the allotted plots if any tannery owner fails to relocate the factory within 72 hours.
The industries ministry has already allocated plots on the 200-acre leather estate in Savar to 155 tannery owners through BSCIC.
Earlier, the tannery owners had given until December 31 of last year to shift their factories, but they did not follow the instruction.
There are some 195 tanneries at Hazaribagh.
The tanneries are blamed to pollute the environment as thousands of liters of highly toxic liquid from those pour into the Buriganga River every day.
